MCP setup

Vitruvius can expose its drawing tools as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so you can script it from any MCP-capable assistant or tool you already use.

Turn it on

  1. In the app, open Settings, then Integrations.
  2. Switch on MCP server. Vitruvius starts a server on your own computer (127.0.0.1, a random port) and shows a bearer token.
  3. Copy the connection details shown there into your MCP client. Most clients accept a Streamable HTTP server with a URL and a header:
{
  "vitruvius": {
    "type": "http",
    "url": "http://127.0.0.1:PORT/mcp",
    "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }
  }
}

Use the port and token from the Integrations screen. The token changes when you turn the server off and on again.

What it can do

The MCP server offers the same read and write tools the built-in agent uses: reading the model, adding and moving walls, placing doors and windows, creating rooms, dimensions and options, and the area schedule.

Every write is a proposal

Changes made through MCP arrive in the app as a proposal in Ask mode, labelled as coming from MCP. Nothing is applied until you accept it on the canvas.

Security

  • The server listens on 127.0.0.1 only, never on your network.
  • Every request needs the bearer token.
  • Requests from web pages (browser origins) are refused.

Cost

Requests made through MCP use your own assistant, so they do not count against your Vitruvius agent allowance.
